Hate cleaning? You’re not alone. In fact, we’re yet to find someone who loves it, besides us of course!

Our years of cleaning houses in the Mackay region has taught us a lot. So much in fact, we’d like to share with you these five five-minute cleaning hacks you can do each and every day to keep on top of your cleaning.

1. Use wet rubber gloves to remove pet hair

If you let animals come inside your home, there’s no doubt you’ve pet hair everywhere. On your floor, gathered in corners or if your animals sleep on your furniture, all over your couch or favourite chair.

A vacuum will pick up the hair on the floor and if you use the upholstery attachment, a through going over of material surfaces will remove the hair stuck here. But this can be time consuming.

A faster, easier way is to simply take a pair of rubber gloves, dampen them in the sink and then run your hands over your furniture. The friction created by the rubber and water means the hair practically sticks to the gloves. Once you have it all, simply ball the wet hair up and put it in the bin.

Hairless couches in five minutes.

2. Use your foot to clean skirting boards

Skirting boards are notoriously dirty. And if they’re painted white, you can see all the dirt and dust and animal hair building up on them. Yuck.

Of course you could get the vacuum out and tediously run the nozzle over them all. Or you could simply grab an old sock, dampen it down and use your foot.

This procedure is quick and easy (clean skirting board in five minutes) and instead of having to put a vacuum away, simply chuck the dirty sock in the wash.

3. Use a dishwasher tablet to lift stove top scum

If you’ve ever had a pot of something boil over or spilt something while cooking, then it is likely you’ve a ring of black, built up disgustingness around your stove top elements.

Getting rid of this ring can be time consuming and require a lot of elbow grease. Unless you try this:

Take a dishwasher tablet and break it up then add a little water to make a paste. Smear this paste all over the built up stuff and let it sit for half an hour or so.

When you come back and wipe away the dishwasher tablet paste, a lot of the black stuff should come away too. It might take a couple of goes to get it completely clean but the chemicals in the dishwasher tablet work at dissolving and lifting a lot of it so you don’t have to spend more than five minutes scrubbing.

4. Use vinegar and newspaper to clean windows and mirrors

This is an old hack. And a goodie.

Truth is, you don’t even need to mix up a spray bottle of vinegar and water. Just take a cloth, dampen it with a little vinegar and wipe over your windows or mirrors then quickly buff to a shine with a piece of newspaper.

Job done.

5. Vacuum for five minutes every day

No one likes vacuuming. But given carpets can hold up to four times their weight in dirt, doing a quick vacuum (say five minutes every day) will help prevent that dirt becoming overly ground in. This will also help assist with the longevity of your carpets.

Of course, the only way to truly clean your carpets, leaving them revitalised and sanitised is to have them professionally cleaned.
